Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman is likely to travel with Indian team for the Ireland tour next month, a source told Sports Tak. Earlier, it was reported that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to send a second-string squad to Ireland for two-T20I series which will be played just before the tour of England.

“VVS is most likely to take charge of India team which will tour Ireland. On the other hand, regular coach Rahul Dravid will be managing the senior member squad for the rescheduled fifth Test as well as the white-ball series in England,” the source revealed.

Also, the squad which will play the Irish will also take on South Africa at home for a five-T20I series. Sports Tak had earlier reported that BCCI is set to rest few senior players including skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul.

India will face Ireland in two T20Is on June 26 and June 28 in Dublin. Before flying to Ireland, India will play South Africa in five T20Is from June 9 to June 19 at home. The senior players have been rested due to bubble fatigue set up for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and the series before that.

Similarly, BCCI sent a second-string squad led by Shikhar Dhawan for limited-overs series against Sri Lanka last year. This happened when India were gearing for the Test series against England after losing the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) final New Zealand.
