The hype around the glitzy Women's Indian Premier League (WIPL) is palpable as eyes are glued on the names of the five franchises which is set to be announced in the early hours of Wednesday (January 25).

 

A massive windfall on BCCI and Women Cricket is expected as out of 33 parties who had picked the tender document, 17 have submitted the technical bids including seven men's IPL franchises: Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The financial bids is expected to be submitted on Wednesday (January 25) at 11am and the five WIPL franchises are expected to be announced shortly after the submission.

 

While the glitzy league is likely to be played in March before the Men's IPL 2023. Ahead of the announcement of the five teams, here's everything you need to know:

 

Participating parties


The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) anticipates a large windfall as more than 30 companies compete for a franchise. The inaugural WIPL season will feature five teams, with all ten IPL franchises and other companies competing for ownership of a WIPL team. Haldiram, Infosys, Shriram Group, Manchester United owners, Adanis, and all ten IPL team owners are among those interested.


When will WIPL 2023 start?


The WIPL 2023 will begin in March, prior to the start of the Men's Indian Premier League season. The WIPL 2023 season will feature five teams.

 

Women's IPL 2023 Auction Date 

Currently no dates are officially finalized for the WIPL Player Auction. But according to the sources in the BCCI, if all goes well with WIPL Teams AUCTION on Wednesday, player AUCTION can be scheduled for second week of February.

The BCCI is currently selecting the five franchises that will compete over the course of the first three years after recently selling the media rights to Viacom 18 for INR 950 crore. Following a closed bidding process, the franchises will be made available to the public on January 25. According to reports, the BCCI held an auction for 29 ITTs, but the actual number of participants may be closer to 15.


Women's IPL 2023 Prize money

The total prize money for the Women's Indian Premier League 2023 will be Rs 10 crore, with Rs 6 crore going to the champion team and Rs 3 crore to the runner-up group. The third-place team will receive Rs 1 crore. The BCCI stated that "player prize money is to be distributed amongst the players only."

 

All about Squad size and overseas Players
The minimum squad size will be 15 and the maximum will be 18. A squad can contain a maximum of 7 overseas players, including one from an associate nation. A playing XI can have a maximum of five overseas players and one must be from an associate nation. The base price of the players will range from INR 10 Lakh to 20 Lakh for uncapped players and from INR 30 Lakh, 40 Lakh to 50 Lakh for capped players.

 

Women's IPL 2023 broadcast Channel

The WIPL 2023 will be broadcast by Viacom 18 after winning the bid for the rights to air the competition.

 

Players' purse in Women's IPL 2023 
INR 12 crore (USD 1.46 million approx.) will be the auction purse for the inaugural season. Each team can buy a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 players, including seven overseas players including at least one Associate player. Unlike in the men's IPL, WIPL teams will have the option of fielding up to five overseas players in the XI, provided one is from an Associate country.
