Aston Martin recently signed Adrian Newey.

After Aston Martin’s announcement on September 10th of Adrian Newey’s appointment as managing technical partner, team principal Mike Krack stated that the option of Max Verstappen joining the team is not closed. Newey is expected to join the team in March 2025 and has also been reported to have bought stakes in the team thus making him a major shareholder.

Krack told the media ahead of the Azerbaijan GP

“I think it will make a difference for everyone, starting with the staff. I think when you manage to appoint Adrian Newey it is proof that the project is credible, that Lawrence’s whole vision is not just words, but it is real action, that we can rely on as a team. We are no longer the underdogs that we used to be in the past. It's a team that has to be confident that it can do it. But also, you have a completely different approach with partners, and the same for racing drivers. So I think it opens up a lot of doors for the future," said Krack.

Krack on Verstappen said
"The door for Max Verstappen is always open, for all teams".

Aston eyeing Verstappen

Auto Sport indicates that Aston Martin is eyeing Verstappen for the 2026 season and beyond. Stroll is reported to be in talks with the Dutch driver who managed to secure 19 triumphs out of 22 races in the 2023 season.

This can be attributed to several factors, for instance, Newey joining the team associated with Red Bull's recent victories and the change of engines to Honda which is set to supply Aston Martin in 2026.

Red Bull intends to design its own Red Bull Powertrains for the 2026 power unit to be built in cooperation with Ford. Verstappen may have some concerns about driving a car that is powered by an engine supplier who has no prior experience in Formula 1. Further, some current factors that could prompt Verstappen include the recent high-profile exits from Red Bull racing and a continuing problem with the RB20 car.

Newey's historic signing

Adrian Newey, a renowned Formula 1 designer is set to join Aston Martin in 2025 after he departs from Red Bull. The 65-year-old, who has served as Red Bull's chief technical officer, announced his exit in May following a strained relationship with team principal Christian Horner.

Newey agreed to stay with Red Bull until early 2025 to complete his work on the RB17, their first hypercar. Newey is now one of the highest-paid figures in the sport, with only Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen earning more.
