Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe were involved in a crash during the NASCAR CUP Series Playoffs opener at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The crash happened on Lap 56 and they were forced to retire early. They finished 37th and 38th in the race with the playoffs race continued at Bristol and Watkins Glen. Kyle Larson has claimed he is a better all-round driver than Max Verstappen but he couldn't back it with recent performance.
How did the crash happen?
The crash played a spoilsport for the hopes of them making it to the postseason in the opening race of the Round of 16. Larson lost control of his car, leading to a collision with Briscoe, and both vehicles caused damage. The incident took place accident that happened on Lap 56 of the 260-lap Quaker State 400 event.
During the race, Larson was running in third position when he lost control of his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in Turns 1 and 2. His car unexpectedly became unstable in the middle of a curve, causing him to overcorrect and crash into the external SAFER barrier nose-first. As Larson's vehicle sustained significant damage, Chase Briscoe, who was running in 14th place, could not avoid hitting Larson's car from behind. Both drivers had to retire from the race due to the severe damage to Briscoe's No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford. Earlier in the race, drivers were struggling with handling issues, and Briscoe was contending with a loose condition in his car before the crash. He commented that racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway was particularly challenging due to the track's demanding conditions.

Larson spoke on the crash
“There was no warning at all. He explained that his car had been getting tighter in handling before the incident, making the crash a complete surprise. "I overcorrected," said Larson.
Briscoe showed his disappointment saying "That’s NASCAR, right? You can be on top one week and at the bottom the next. I was trying to avoid Larson, but I couldn’t get left quick enough,".
The upcoming races in the playoff Round of 16 are scheduled for September 21 at Bristol Motor Speedway and September 15 at Watkins Glen International. The four drivers who perform the worst and fail to win in these races will be eliminated from the championship contention.
