Martin Truex Jr. has shared some wonderful news ahead of the 2025 Daytona 500 as he will be reuniting with his former crew chief Cole Pearn. The 2017 Cup Series Champion is currently in his last full-time season driving for Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.
During the media duties ahead of the NASCAR playoffs, Truex Jr. revealed that Cole Pearn will be returning to his crew. They both shared a successful run during their time at the Furniture Row Racing.
Truex moved to his existing squad Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota as his previous team Furniture Row Racing had to close due to issues involving money.
The other cool news about that is Cole Pearn's gonna be my crew chief
During his interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, the 44-year-old expressed his excitement about the reunion.
"All I know is I'm racing. And, uh, the other cool news about that is Cole Pern's gonna be my crew chief...We're bringing, we're, we're bringing him out of the mountains," Truex Jr. said.
Meanwhile, Treux Jr. and Pearn worked together for a period of four years from 2015 to 2019. The pair had won 24 races during that time and also the 2017 Cup Series championship. "He's gonna do it. It's gonna be awesome," Truex Jr. added.
Pearn had retired back in 2019 but now he works for Joe Gibbs Racing as their consultant. His last major job in the sport was as a chief engineer for Conor Daly at the 2020 Indianapolis 500. Pearn also helped Truex Jr. in the past as a spotter in 2021 and also as an engineer in 2022.
Truex Jr. on part-time racing in 2025
The driver for Joe Gibbs Racing is ready for a break from being on the road as he plans to race part-time next year. He also does not want to travel every weekend.
"I still love racing. I still love driving cars. Just ready to not travel 40 weekends a year. That’s the only thing." Truex Jr. concluded.
