Wrestling Federation of India's president Sanjay Singh has said that WFI will set up an investigation on the coaching and support staff for not doing their job properly which later might have resulted in the disqualification of star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from the Final of women's 50 kg freestyle event at Paris Olympics 2024. He said they are also talking to world wrestling and trying to ensure that Vinesh gets the medal that she deserves.

 

“we will do an investigation on the support staff not doing their job properly. We are still trying to ensure Vinesh gets the medal she deserves. We are speaking to world wrestling,” Sanjay Singh told Sports Tak in an exclusive conversation.

“VINESH Vinesh (IND) failed second day weigh-in. According to the acticle 11 of the International Wrestling Rules, VINESH Vinesh (IND) will be replaced by the wrestler who lost against her in the Semifinal. Therefore GUZMAN LOPEZ Yusneylis (CUB) will compete in the Final. Repechage SUSAKI Yui (JPN) vs LIVACH Oksana (UKR) will become Bronze Medal Match,” stated Olympics committee in their official statement.

 

As per a report from Sports Star, Vinesh almost weighed 49.9 kg before her semi-final match but usually, she weighs around 57 kg, so she has to work a lot to keep herself within the weight limit. Even a small meal used to spiker her weight to at least 53kg. She was weighing around 52.7 kgs after the semi. She constantly worked to bring her weight down without breaks, eating, or drinking. They were able to bring the weight down to 50.1 by morning. However, she did not get any more time to cut the remaining.
