Olympic gold medallist and World No.1 Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra will miss the upcoming FBK Games in Hengelo, Netherlands after the 25-year-old confirmed on social media that he had suffered a muscle strain while training.
Recently, Neeraj became the first Indian to get to the top of the Javelin Throw rankings after his 89.63-meter throw at the Diamond League in Zurich sealed the gold medal for him.
Sharing a message on social media, Neeraj revealed that following a medical evaluation, he and his team decided to withdraw from the FBK Games to avoid any risks of aggravating the injury.

"Injuries are part of the journey, but it’s never easy. Recently, I sustained a muscle strain during my training. Following a medical evaluation, me and my team have decided to avoid any risks which can aggravate the injury. Unfortunately, it means that I have to withdraw from the FBK Games, in Hengelo. Wishing the organisers and the tournament all the success.
“I am on the road to recovery, and will aim to be back on the track in June. Thank you for all your support!,” read the Tweet.
Neeraj has made the podium regularly when fit and participating in competitions. He started his run when he won the historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. However, Neeraj missed the Commonwealth Games in 2022 due to a groin injury.
He is expected to be back in action for the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, on June 13.
On May 22, Neeraj was named the world no. 1 after he attained 1455 points, followed by Anderson Peters (1433 points) in second and Jakub Vadlejch (1416 points) in third positions respectively. Speaking to the press, Chopra said after the competition and said he wanted to remain consistent with his performances heading into the Paris Olympics, which is scheduled to take place in 2024.
"It was a very hard win, but I'm happy, It's a really good start for me. I hope to come in the first place in the next competitions and to keep consistent during this season," Chopra told the media after his win at Doha.
"I feel really good, today was challenging for all athletes, but I'm still satisfied with my result. It was a good start and it's a great atmosphere. Lot of people came to support me and they are really happy," Chopra concluded.
