Some big news coming from the New York Yankees camp is that just before the World Series clash against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Nestor Cortes can see his name on the team's roster. The postseason roster for the Yankees has gotten better with each round as veterans Anthony Rizzo and Marcus Stroman joined the club in the ALCS after missing the first round.
What did Aaron Boone say about Nestor Cortes?
It now seems that Nestor Cortes could be the next veteran in line to join the New York Yankees as they look to secure their first World Series title since 2009. Yankees manager Aaron Boone has provided the fans with a major update on the 29-year-old's inclusion on the roster.
Aaron Boone mentioned that it is likely that Cortes will be included in the team's World Series roster. Cortes has been recovering from a flexor strain in his left elbow and if he continues to make strides in his recovery, then he can make the roster.
"There is a decent chance," Aaron Boone said.
Nestor Cortes has been inconsistent at times but a player with a proven track record at this stage of the season can only help the franchise. But, he needs to prove that he is fit enough to take one of the spots in the roster.
"I think there is a good chance of it. He is scheduled to throw another live tomorrow," Boone added.
It remains to be seen how the New York Yankees use Cortes if he is added to the roster.
Nestor Cortes could be a major boost to the Yankees' pitcher staff
It won't matter if Cortes makes a return as a starting pitcher or join the team's bullpen, adding a strong left-handed star would be essential for the club. The reliever for the Yankees, Ian Hamilton will not be available for the playoffs after he sustained a calf injury that led him to be removed from the club's ALCA and World Series roster.
Hamilton was replaced by Mark Leiter Jr. on the roster. It is possible that the spot Leiter Jr. has taken can go to Cortes if he makes a return.
