Story Highlights:

Jason Kidd says Kyrie Irving could return “in the year of ’25, not ’26,” hinting at a possible comeback before year-end.

Irving continues rehab after tearing his ACL in March and has resumed light practice without setbacks.

Kyrie Irving could mark her comeback from injury sooner than expected. Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd shared a big update about the superstar point guard's return timeline on Saturday. Interacting with the reporters during the pregame presser ahead of the Detroit Pistons game, Kidd revealed that Irving could make his return before the year ends.

"We just can't wait to get Kai back, at some point," Kidd said. "Hopefully it's in the year of '25, not '26. We'll see what happens, but I think those two (Irving and Flagg) will be a perfect match in the backcourt."

Kyrie Irving faced a major injury setback earlier in the year in March. The one-time NBA champion suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during a game against the Sacramento Kings. He went through a surgical procedure to cure the injury and has since been in rehabilation.

Considering the seriousness of the injury, it is hard to imagine that Irving returning to the court before the year ends, roughly nine months after he went down. It would be nothing short of amazing if manages to pull it off.

NBA Fans react to Kyrie Irving injury update

Social media went crazy soon after Jason Kidd provided the latest update on Kyrie Irving. Netizens requested the Dallas Mavericks and Irving to avoid rushing back from a career-ending injury like an ACL blow.

Earlier in September, Irving exuded confidence when questioned about his recovery. The former Cleveland Cavaliers guard said that his recovery went "incredible well", further fueling the chances of an early comeback.

Meanwhile, Irving has been seen at the Mavericks' practice since the season kicked off. The experienced guard is putting in the hard yards behind the scenes, carrying out individual drills and shooting practice. So far, the Mavericks star has suffered no setback.
