We’re ecstatic that this extension keeps him and his family in Philadelphia for years to come. Joel is a great family man, leader, and person. He is an elite two-way player with a combination of size, strength, and athleticism that this league has rarely – if ever – seen. He is integral to this franchise’s quest for another NBA Championship, and we are honored that he continues to choose this organization as his NBA home," Managing Partner Josh Harris said in the press release.
“I started a Sixer and want to be right here for the rest of my career. I had no idea when I was drafted as a 20-year-old kid from Cameroon how lucky I was to be in Philadelphia. Through all the ups and downs, this city and the fans have been everything, and I am so grateful for how they’ve embraced me. I want to thank Josh, David, and the entire organization. Philadelphia is home and it’s time to bring this community an NBA championship," Embid said.

Joel's Career
Selected by the 76ers as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Joel Embiid's career took off with his All-Rookie Team recognition in 2016-17, setting the stage for a remarkable journey. His accolades include a gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 2022-23 NBA Most Valuable Player award, five All-NBA Team selections, seven consecutive All-Star nods from 2017-24, three All-Defensive Team honors, and two consecutive scoring titles (2021-23). In 433 games (all starts) with the franchise, Embiid boasts impressive averages of 27.9 points on 50.4% shooting, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.7 blocks in 31.9 minutes per game. He holds the franchise record for scoring average, ranks fifth in blocked shots (720), is tied for sixth in triple-doubles (seven), and seventh in total points (12,071). Notably, he ranks third in franchise history with eight 50-point games, highlighted by his record-setting 70-point performance against San Antonio on January 22, 2024.
In the 2023-24 season, Embiid averaged 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists, joining Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to average at least 34.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists over any 39-game span. During this stretch, he scored 1,353 points in just 1,309 minutes, making him one of two players to achieve such scoring efficiency alongside Chamberlain.
