For Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir, results do matter and it is not just about the process. Unlike many cricketers in India including MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, Gambhir does not believe that process outweighs the results. Since his return to KKR, the Shreyas Iyer-led side has delivered exceptional performances. With four wins from six games, they are placed second on the points table.
"I say it very openly that results do matter to me. I don't believe in this word called 'Process' & 'Do the process right, results will take care of their own'. For me, results matter, because people come to watch KKR win," Gambhir said at KKR Knights Dugout Podcast.
KKR will go up against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 21. Ahead of the much-awaited clash, former KKR captain said that the franchise's supporters are one of the most loyal fanbase in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He lauded the fans for their support despite ordinary performances in the past few seasons.
"I genuinely and from the bottom of my heart feel that KKR has the most loyal fan base in the entire country. The reason is because, see the history of KKR, the fans have gone through a lot in the first 3 years and then the way they stuck with the team in their thick and thin shows the kind of passion they have," Gambhir said.
In the podcast, the former Indian opener also revealed his conversation with KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan. The left-handed batter said that he wanted to drop himself after scoring just one run in four games but the Bollywood superstar forbid him from dropping himself.
“I couldn't score one run in four games. I've said it numerous times I think he is the best owner I've worked with. It's not because I'm now part of KKR or I was part of KKR. I don't think so in seven years of me captaining KKR we have had a cricketing conversation even for seven minutes, except that patch that I was going through," he said.

“That time also we had the conversation because I was on the verge of dropping myself. The only thing he told me was till you're here, you are not going to drop yourself," he added.
