Team India batter Prithvi Shaw on August 20 (Sunday) shared a cryptic message on his Instagram story amidst his recovery from a knee injury. Shaw shared a picture of a staircase and wrote, "People give hands when you step up in life, and always leaves it when you go down from steps." Shaw was making a strong case for his comeback into the Indian side by piling heaps on runs in the One-Day Cup tournament in England while playing for Northamptonshire.
Just when Shaw was leaving a lasting impression, his campaign came to an agonising end with Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) injury.
"Prithvi injured his knee while fielding in the fixture against Durham and subsequent scan results received this morning have revealed the injury is worse than initially expected," the Northamptonshire stated in a media release.
Shaw showcased his splendid form by racking up an unbeaten 125 off just 76 balls, adorning his innings with 15 boundaries and a commendable seven sixes. This performance helped Northants effortlessly chase down the 198-run target set by Durham on August 13.
It's also important to highlight that just a few days earlier, on August 9, the dynamic Mumbai batsman delivered a staggering 244 off 153 balls, enriched with 28 fours and 11 sixes. This remarkable innings paved the way for Northamptonshire's dominant victory over Somerset by 87 runs.
Given his recent on-field exploits, there's growing speculation about Shaw's possible re-entry into the Indian cricket team. Shaw last donned the Indian jersey during a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2021. Aiming to rediscover his touch and reclaim his place in the national team, Shaw took to the field in the Duleep Trophy for the West Zone last month. However, he couldn't mirror his exceptional form from the English county circuit.
Still, with his consecutive standout displays for Northamptonshire, Shaw seems to be making a compelling case for a much-anticipated return to the Indian cricket team.
