Virat Kohli wins ‘Fielder of the series medal’: India completed a clean sweep against Afghanistan in their T20I series, securing decisive victories in the first two matches. The final T20I, however, turned out to be an edge-of-the-seat encounter. Rohit Sharma's brilliant century (121), combined with Rinku Singh's 69, enabled India to bounce back from a precarious 22/4, finishing at 212/4 in their 20 overs. Afghanistan put up a strong fight, taking the game to a Super Over thanks to half-centuries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Gulbadin Naib. But one Super Over couldn't decide the fate of the match. The third T20I between India and Afghanistan marked the first occasion where two Super Overs were played, with India ultimately clinching the win by 10 runs.
King Kohli clinches ‘Fielder of the series’ medal
A key moment in the match was an exceptional fielding effort by Virat Kohli, which ultimately made a significant difference. When Karim Janat struck the ball towards the long-on boundary, Kohli executed a remarkable leap and managed to flick the ball back into play, saving five crucial runs for his team. Additionally, Kohli's impressive catch of Najibullah Zadran was another highlight. These efforts led to Virat Kohli being awarded the Fielder Of The Series Medal for India. This practice of presenting the best fielder with a medal was started during the ODI World Cup.
After India's win against Afghanistan in third T20I , fielding coach T Dilip gave an inspiring speech in the dressing room while announcing the candidates for the Fielder of the Series award. He commended exceptional fielders like Kohli and Rinku Singh for their diligent work in guarding the boundaries. In the end, Virat Kohli was honored with the award for his outstanding catching and boundary fielding. The whole team applauded Kohli enthusiastically, with captain Rohit Sharma showing his pleasure through a warm smile and hearty clapping.
