Asia Cup 2022 has been shifted to UAE amidst economic crisis and political unrest in Sri Lanka, said the Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly.
"Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won't be rains," Ganguly told reporters after the Board's Apex Council meeting in Mumbai on July 21.
Earlier on July 20, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that they will not be able to host the upcoming edition of Asia Cup T20 which is scheduled to start in the last week of August.
The decision comes after SLC had to postpone the third edition of their domestic T20 league, Lanka Premier League (LPL).
This year’s Asia Cup will also be played in the T20 format like in the last edition. India are currently defending champions of the tournament.
