Virat Kohli roared with the bat yet again in the high-octane match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup's Super Four clash on Sunday (September 4) but his 44-ball 60 went in vain as India lost the nail-biter match by five wickets.
But right after the hapless defeat against the arch-rivals Pakistan, Kohli made a big revelation and said when he left Test captaincy, nobody got in touch with him except MS Dhoni which left him shattered.
“When I left Test captaincy, Dhoni was the only one who texted me. A lot of people have my number but he was the only one who texted me. These things matter. I live my life with honesty and these things matter for me,” Kohli said in the post match press conference.
“There is respect and a connection and when it’s genuine this is how it looks. I never felt insecure by him (MS Dhoni), nor did he ever feel insecure by me.”
Kohli blasted four boundaries and one maximum in his resolute knock to help India post a decent total of 181/7 which Pakistan chased down in a last-ball thriller with five wickets to spare.
"I've played for 14 years. It doesn't happen by chance. My job is to work hard and contribute to the team. What happens in the change room is the only thing that matters to me. The break has taught me that this isn't be all and end all. I've found excitement back," he further added.
Riding on his sensational fifty, Kohli scripted two world records and he also went atop the run-scoring chart in Asia Cup 2022. Kohli surpassed India skipper Rohit Sharma to notch-up most fifty-plus scores in T20I cricket. He now has 32 such scores in 94 innings for India, one more than Rohit, who has appeared in a record 135 matches for the Men in Blue in the format.
Virat also said, "The environment in the team has been fantastic, everyone was so welcoming after coming from the break - I am really enjoying the atmosphere".
