Shakib Al Hasan will lead a 17-member Bangladesh squad for the 2023 Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on August 30. In what appears as a good blend of youth and experience in the squad, Bangladesh have kept one eye on the future while handing a maiden call-up to Tanzid Hasan. The 22-year-old Tanzid has been looked at as a possible long-term replacement for Tamim Iqbal, who will miss the Asia Cup with a back injury.

The left-handed batter gave an excellent account of his potential during the recently-concluded Emerging Men's Asia Cup competition. The southpaw scored 179 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 116.99 with the help of three half-centuries.

Shamim Hossain has received his maiden ODI call-up for Bangladesh. The 22-year-old left-handed batter has played 17 T20Is and aggregated 245 runs at a strike rate of 119.51 to go with one half-century.

Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das are the familiar faces in Bangladesh's batting line-up and the troika will lead the charge once again in Asia Cup. Meanwhile, Veteran all-rounder veteran Mahmudullah was snubbed from the squad for the continental competition.

The Bangla Tigers will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on August 31 in Pallekele. On September 3, Shakib's men will square off against Afghanistan in Lahore.
