India captain Rohit Sharma won the all-important toss and elected to bat first in the 2023 Asia Cup Super 4s clash against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 12 (Tuesday). Rohit made one change to the playing XI that featured in the game against Pakistan. Axar Patel walked into the playing XI and replaced Shardul Thakur, who missed out solely based on the conditions. Sri Lanka went in with the same playing XI that featured in their previous match.

Ahead of the toss, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an update on Shreyas Iyer's fitness and said that the stylish batter remains under the supervision of the medical team and didn't travel with the team to the stadium. 

"Shreyas Iyer is feeling better but is yet to fully recover from back spasms. He has been adviced rest by the BCCI Medical Team and has not travelled with the team to the stadium today for India's Super 4 match against Sri Lanka," BCCI said in a tweet on X (formerly known as Twitter). 

The tie between India and Sri Lanka is going to be extremely crucial not just for the two teams playing but also for Pakistan, who suffered a massive defeat against the Men in Blue and saw their Net Run Rate (NRR) take big beating.
