In a recent interaction on his YouTube channel, Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin unveiled a past discussion with Virat Kohli, highlighting Kohli's commendation for Rohit Sharma's prowess during the death overs of a match. Contrary to Ashwin's assumption of MS Dhoni being the 'captain's nightmare' in the final overs, Kohli firmly believed it was Rohit.

Kohli's exact words as recounted by Ashwin were, "Virat Kohli and I had a discussion 5–6 years ago when Rohit Sharma was batting. Virat asked me, 'Do you know who's a captain's nightmare at the end overs?' I asked, Is it MSD? Virat was like, 'No, it's Rohit because you won't know where to bowl."

Rohit Sharma's recent achievements further bolster this admiration. He raced to be the second-fastest cricketer to amass 10,000 runs in ODIs. In the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup, his splendid form, marked by consecutive half-centuries, has been instrumental for India's journey to the finals.

Ashwin also predicted that the current India skipper will make another double hundred in the 2023 World Cup.

Rohit, eyeing his fourth Asia Cup victory, is poised to captain India to a record 8th title in the tournament.

Other records that the batter completed on the way to 10,000 ODI runs:

  • First Indian to complete a 10 fifty-plus score in the Asia Cup.
  • 8000 runs as an opener in ODIs.
  • Rohit-Shubman are the fastest pair to register 1,000 runs in ODI cricket.

Meanwhile, India will play the final of the Asia Cup against the winner of the virtual semi-final clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
