The hearts of over a billion Indians swelled with pride on Wednesday (August 23) after the Vikram lander of Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the moon's lunar south pole. India became the first country to secure this unprecedented achievement and the moment came to fruition only because of the great minds working at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

People from all walks of life took to social media to celebrate the historic day and laud the efforts of the great scientists. Indian cricketers and former players also joined the bandwagon and shared heartfelt messages on X (formerly known as Twitter).

India captain Rohit Sharma, ex-skipper Virat Kohli, legendary figure Sachin Tendulkar and former women's team captain Mithali Raj were among the long list athletes who penned a special message.

"The 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 to reach the lunar south pole. That's got a nice ring to it. A proud moment for each one of us & a big congratulations to @isro for all their efforts," Rohit wrote.

"Many congratulations to the #Chandrayaan3 team. You have made the nation proud. Jai Hind!" Kohli wrote.

"विजयी विश्व तिरंगा प्यारा, झंडा ऊँचा रहे हमारा @ISRO represents the best of India. Humble, hardworking women & men, coming together, overcoming challenges, and making our tricolour fly high. India must celebrate and congratulate the Chandrayaan-2 team, which was led by Shri K Sivan, along with Shri S Somanath’s #Chandrayaan3 team. Every hard landing has lessons which take us closer to a soft landing - on the moon, and in life. Jai Hind!" Sachin wrote.

"Historic! We are now on the moon! Congratulations to my fellow Indians on the successful landing of Chandryaan-3! So proud of our nation and its continuous progress and success. We will keep going," wrote Suryakumar.

"Kudos to the brilliant minds at @ISRO for their extraordinary achievement! Congratulations to the #Chandrayaan3 team for their outstanding achievement!" wrote Gill.

"We've all gazed at the moon from afar, a symbol of wonder and curiosity. Today, India proudly stands on the lunar surface, a giant leap that embodies our nation's scientific prowess and determination. A proud moment for all Indians!" Mithali wrote.
