Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has raised questions over India's team selection for the Asia Cup 2023 match against Nepal, held on Monday, September 4, at Pallekele. India made a solitary change in their playing XI, replacing Jasprit Bumrah with Mohammed Shami. Bumrah returned home for the birth of his first child. Gambhir expressed his desire to see three genuine fast bowlers in the lineup, casting doubts over the role of Shardul Thakur.

Gambhir emphasized that India could benefit from including three specialized fast bowlers in the playing XI, suggesting that Shardul Thakur's contributions are already well-known. According to him, overlooking a talent like Prasidh Krishna, especially after his strong comeback, might be a missed opportunity for the Indian team.

"Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna. I wanted to see three fast bowlers, three genuine fast bowlers and see how that combination comes," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

"The most important thing is that we all know that what Shardul Thakur brings to the table. Yes, he can bowl one change, he can do a bit of batting at number eight. But yet India could have gone with Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna in this game," he added.

Prasidh Krishna: Strong Comeback After Injury

Prasidh Krishna recently returned to the Indian team following his recovery from a stress fracture. He made his comeback in the T20I series against Ireland, where he showcased impressive form by taking four wickets in just two matches. This strong performance led to his inclusion in the squad for the Asia Cup 2023. After the Ireland tour, Prasidh shared insights on the key areas he focused on during his recovery period at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

"Our sessions at the NCA were thoroughly productive. The clarity we maintained and the regular assessment of our physical and mental fitness helped us in achieving our rehabilitation goals. We initially concentrated on promoting overall well-being before transitioning into bowling practice. This approach ensured a steady recovery and helped in preparing us for match conditions," he said on JioCinema.
