Highlights:

Due to downpour, the match between India and Pakistan came to a screeching halt.At the end of 24.1 overs, India are solid at 147/2 with Virat Kohli, KL Rahul alive at the crease.

The much-anticipated cricketing duel between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super Four clash in Colombo faced an unforeseen interruption due to a sudden downpour. Early in the day, despite forecasts of rain, the game commenced under a clear sky, fuelling aspirations of an uninterrupted match. However, the weather had other plans as the atmosphere around the Premadasa stadium darkened around the 20-over mark, culminating in a torrential downpour that brought the game to a screeching halt.

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, India got off to a roaring start, with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill laying a solid foundation with a 121-run partnership in just 16.4 overs. However, after the departure of the skipper Sharma (56 off 49), Gill (58 off 52) soon followed, marking a turning point in the match for Pakistan. At the rain interruption, the game's momentum hung in the balance, with India at 147/2 and batting stalwarts Virat Kohli (8 off 16) and KL Rahul (17 off 28) on the pitch at the end of 24.1 overs.

In light of such disruptions, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has prudently scheduled a reserve day for this high-voltage India vs Pakistan match-up. This means, if inclement weather continues to impede the game today, action will shift to Monday, A. That said, tomorrow's weather prediction doesn't appear promising either, indicating further chances of rain.

Considering the Reserve Day – What Does it Mean for the Match?

The stipulations suggest that the reserve day will only be activated if today's game is deemed unplayable. The primary goal would be to ensure at least a shortened, 20-over match on the original day. If that's unattainable, the action rolls over to the reserve day, picking up from where it left off.

The Indian Team's Perspective on the Reserve Day Dilemma

Interestingly, Team India might be wary of the match shifting to the reserve day. Such a shift implies a demanding schedule of playing on three consecutive days – 10th, 11th, and 12th September. The subsequent day after the rescheduled Pakistan match would witness India clashing with Bangladesh. This grueling back-to-back schedule might strain players, especially those like KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah, who are making their comeback post injuries. Their fitness, along with the team's overall performance, might be tested in such a demanding scenario.
