His innings included 9 fours and 2 sixes and he forged a 138-run partnership for the 5th wicket with Hardik Pandya.

Hardik Pandya's supportive role

Hardik Pandya also played a crucial role, contributing 87 runs in 90 balls. Despite their efforts, Team India was bowled out in 48.5 overs, posting a total of 266 runs. Unfortunately, the match was eventually cancelled due to rain, and Pakistan did not get a chance to bat.

Breaking Virat Kohli's Record

Ishan's 82-run innings shattered a significant record previously held by Virat Kohli. Ishan now ranks second among Indian batters for the most runs scored in their first 17 ODI innings. Kohli had scored 757 runs after his first 17 ODI innings, while Ishan has amassed 776 runs, boasting an average of 48.5.

Additional milestones

In his 17 innings across 18 ODIs, Ishan has one double-century and seven half-centuries to his name. He is also the only player on this list with a strike rate exceeding 105. Furthermore, his half-century against Pakistan marks his fourth consecutive fifty in ODI cricket.

Surpassing Dhoni's Record

Ishan's innings also broke another record, this one set by MS Dhoni. Ishan now holds the record for the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in the history of the Asia Cup against Pakistan. Dhoni had previously scored 76 runs against Pakistan back in 2008.

With such a stellar performance, Ishan Kishan has undoubtedly become a player to watch in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 and future international fixtures.
