Team India premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah flew back to India on September 3 (Sunday) in the middle of the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup. Sports Tak has learned that Bumrah has returned to Mumbai due to personal reasons. Rohit Sharma's Men in Blue are scheduled to cross swords against minnows Nepal on September 4 (Monday).
The veteran pacer will miss India's match against Nepal on Monday but is expected to join the team before the Super Fours stage kicks off. The Mumbai Indians' seasoned pacer is likely to be available for selection in the playing XI during India's first Super Fours match, which is scheduled to be held on September 10 (Sunday).
Bumrah is fully fit and there has been no setback health-wise for the veteran pacer.
The Indian pacer was part of India's playing XI during the match against Pakistan on September 2 (Saturday). The match was washed out and hence, the right-arm pacer didn't get a chance to bowl even a single delivery in the match. Having said that, Bumrah played a handy knock with the bat and scored 16 runs off 14 balls with the help of three fours. It was also Bumrah's best score in ODI cricket.
Furthermore, India's ODI World Cup squad has to be announced by September 5. As it stands right now, the selectors will have to name Bumrah in the 15-member squad for the quadrennial competition despite not watching him bowl 10 overs in an ODI match.
Bumrah made his comeback to international cricket in the recently-concluded T20I series against Ireland in which he was appointed as the skipper of the team. The right-arm pacer bowled brilliantly against Ireland and gave an excellent account of his recovery from back injury.
The 29-year-old had missed 11 months and was out of action with continuous problems with his back. He even underwent back surgery and then returned to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru where he worked relentlessly towards rehabilitation.
