In what came as a significant development pertaining to the 2023 Asia Cup clash between India and Pakistan during the Super 4s stage of the tournament, the decision-makers have opted for a reserve day for the high-voltage contest in case the rain intervenes in Colombo. The match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to be played on September 10 (Sunday) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Interestingly, India vs Pakistan is the only contest during the Super 4s stage for which a reserve day has been incorporated. The final of the competition, which is scheduled to be played on September 17 in Colombo, will also have a reserve day.

It is also important to note, that the match on reserve day will begin from exactly where it comes to a halt on the originally scheduled date, which is September 10.

The decision comes after the group-stage match between India and Pakistan was washed out because of relentless rain in Pallekele.

“A reserve day has been incorporated for the Super11 Asia Cup 2023 Super 4’s match between Pakistan vs India scheduled to take place on 10th September 2023 at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo,” Asian Cricket Council said in a release.

“If adverse weather suspends play during the Pak vs India game, the match will continue on 11th September 2023 from the point it was suspended," it added.

As far as the weather in Colombo is concerned, the capital city of Sri Lanka has been receiving heavy rainfall for the last couple of weeks and a similar forecast has been predicted for the near future.

Earlier, the officials had contemplated shifting all the matches out of Colombo due to the weather conditions and moving them to Hambantota. But later they decided to stick with the original venue for the Super 4s matches.
