The partnership of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stormed its way into the history books on September 12 (Tuesday) as the duo became the fastest pair to register 1,000 runs in ODI cricket. Entering the 2023 Asia Cup Super 4s contest against Sri Lanka, Rohit and Gill needed 34 partnership runs to secure the records and the duo achieved the remarkable mark at the R Premadasa Stadium. Rohit and Gill reached the four-figure mark in just their 12th innings together at the top of the order for India in ODIs.

When it comes to Rohit and Gill's partnership, the numbers are absolutely outrageous. In 12 innings together, the duo has scored 1,046 runs in 12 innings at a stupendous average of 95.09. The Indian openers have combined for four 100+ partnerships and five 50+ alliances in 12 innings together. The highest partnership between Rohit and Gill is 212 runs. 

Also, Rohit and Gill became only the 10th Indian opening pair to breach the 1,000-run partnership mark. 

Coming back to the match between India and Sri Lanka, Rohit and Gill combined for an 80-run stand before Dunith Wellalage stunned the latter with a vicious delivery. Gill departed after scoring 19 runs off 25 balls with the help of two boundaries. Rohit registered his 51st half-century in ODI cricket before Wellalage delivered another unplayable ball that sent the Indian skipper back to the pavilion. The Hitman departed after scoring 53 runs off 48 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes. 

Virat Kohli was also bamboozled by Wellalage as the former India skipper walked back to the dressing room after scoring just three runs off 12 balls.
