India and Australia are set to square off in the 2nd ODI on September 24 (Sunday) at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. KL Rahul's brigade has a 1-0 lead heading into what will be a do-or-die match for Pat Cummins' side. With bigwigs like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav not available for selection even for the second ODI, the onus will once again fall on the younger brigade to deliver a knockout punch to the Baggy Greens.
Talking about India's playing XI for the Indore ODI, the Men in Blue are likely to make a couple of strategic changes, especially with the ODI World Cup hovering on the horizon. India would look to rest a couple of premier players for the second ODI which will open the doors for the team to assess its bench strength.
Bumrah, Kishan likely to be rested
Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly in the first ODI and finished his quota of 10 overs. The right-arm pacer is likely to be rested for the second game and Mohammed Siraj might take his place in the XI. In the batting department, Ishan Kishan might be seen opening batting alongside Shubman Gill with Ruturaj Gaikwad making way for Tilak Varma or Washington Sundar as the team management would want two youngsters to get some game time.
Apart from the aforementioned two changes, the rest of the playing XI should mirror the team that features in the first ODI in Mohali.
All eyes will once again be on Ravichandran Ashwin, who bowled a decent spell in Mohali. India would want the veteran off-spinner to find full rhythm as he is firmly in the reckoning to make the cut for the World Cup at the eleventh hour.
Shreyas Iyer was unlucky in the previous match as the right-handed batter was run out. India would want Iyer to spend some time in the middle as he lacks match practice after missing multiple matches during the 2023 Asia Cup as well.
India Predicted Playing XI for 2nd ODI vs Australia: Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (c, wk), Tilak Varma/Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj/Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
