Shubman Gill reached the 1000-run milestone during the Asia Cup 2023.

Stylish Indian opener Shubman Gill's childhood dream came to fruition on September 22 (Friday) when he walked out to play at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Gill, who was playing his first international match at home, voiced his happiness after playing in front of friends and family in Mohali. The young India star also revealed that he had been coming to the international cricket stadium in Mohali since the age of seven.

"I was 7 years old when we came to Mohali for the first time. Since I had seen so many matches here as a spectator, it was a dream for me to play an international match in Mohali. I'd played a couple of IPL matches but to play an international match with my family watching was special," Gill to Jio Cinema.

Gill played an impressive knock of 74 runs off 63 balls, an innings decorated with six boundaries and two sixes.

Having stamped his authority throughout the year, Gill reached the 1000-run milestone during the Asia Cup 2023, becoming the 13th Indian cricketer to achieve this feat within a calendar year. This is a revered list with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar at the pinnacle, having amassed 1894 runs in 1998.

Gill also spoke about how players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan are looking to cash in on any opportunity to score runs for the Men in Blue and solidify their place in the playing XI.

"Both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have grabbed their opportunities. They are all very eager to perform and are showing it when they get a chance," Gill added.

Gill shed light on his strength and what people can expect from him during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

"I feel my strength is to know when to attack and when to defend. You can expect me to play according to the situation at the World Cup. I will try to adapt to the opponents and conditions and give myself the best possible chance to do well," said Gill.
