IND vs AUS: Calls to include Sanju Samson gains momentum after Suryakumar Yadav's consecutive golden ducks

Star India middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has endured a horrendous start to his ODI career. For some strange reasons, the stylish batter has failed to translate his T20I heroics into success in 50-over cricket. Things are only going from bad to worse for the Mumbaikar after he registered a second consecutive golden duck in the ongoing white-ball series against Australia. In the first and second ODIs, Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for golden ducks.

With Suryakumar struggling immensely, former cricketers and fans are urging the Indian team management to include Sanju Samson in the scheme of things. Former India batter Wasim Jaffer also batted for the inclusion of Samson as Suryakumar continues to struggle.

"We might sympathize with Suryakumar Yadav as the first ball that he faced was of 145 clicks. No doubt that it's challenging when a left-arm seamer tries to bring the ball back in. Again, he should have anticipated that when Mitchell Starc bowls, he will attack the stumps and might swing the ball. We have to see if the management sticks with him in the third ODI otherwise it's not a bad option to give Sanju Samson a chance because he has played well when given the opportunity and he is a good player," Jaffer told ESPN Cricinfo.

Samson is not part of India's ODI squad for the Australia series. Having said that, in limited opportunities, Samson has played brilliantly in ODI cricket for India. The elegant right-handed batter has tallied 330 runs in 10 innings at a terrific average of 66. He has also registered two half-centuries in ODIs.

Meanwhile, captain Rohit Sharma backed Suryakumar Yadav after the latter's second consecutive golden duck.

"We don’t know about (Shreyas) Iyer’s return. At this time there is a spot available so we have to play him (Suryakumar). He has obviously shown a lot of potential with white ball and I have said it many times before (that) guys with potential will be given some run," the Indian skipper said after the second ODI.
