IND vs AUS: Gautam Gambhir dissects the similarity between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's captaincy

Former India captain and a two-time World Cup winner, Gautam Gambhir reckons that the captaincy style of Rohit Sharma is similar to that of ex-skipper Virat Kohli, especially in Test cricket. The cricketer-turned-pundit believes that Rohit has followed the template set by Virat, particularly when it comes to using spinners in red-ball cricket.

"Honestly, I have always believed that Rohit Sharma is an amazing captain, but there is not much difference between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, especially in this format (Tests). Virat Kohli started this template," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

Under Rohit's captaincy, India are yet to lose or draw a Test match. The astute tactician has led the national side in four Test matches so far and registered wins in all of those fixtures.

Gambhir even went on to claim that the captaincy style of Rohit is 'identical' to that of Virat, who led India to 40 Test wins during his time at the helm.

"Virat Kohli has captained exceptionally well whenever he has captained this Test team and Rohit is probably following that template only. Honestly, Rohit has not created his own template. The way Virat Kohli managed Ashwin and Jadeja, it is absolutely identical captaincy," Gambhir added.

Rohit has led India to a 2-0 series lead over Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India clinched the 2nd Test match by six wickets in Delhi after thumping the Baggy Greens by an innings and 132 runs in the 1st Test match in Nagpur.

The Indian captain will have a chance to add a couple of more wins to his tally with two matches still remaining in the series. The 3rd Test is scheduled to begin on March 01 in Indore and a victory will ensure a series win for the hosts.
