Team India staged a brilliant comeback in the ongoing fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Riding on incredible centuries from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's brigade gave a perfect retort to Australia's first innings 480 and went on to cross 500-run mark on Day 4 to dominate the all-important Test match. Where Gill hogged the limelight on Day 3 after smashing a scintillating a 128 off 235, Kohli was the cynosure of all eyes on Day 4 as he clobbered his 28th Test ton after a gap of 1204 days.
After losing Gill's wicket, Kohli found an ally in Ravindra Jadeja and weaved an important partnership together to keep the India's scoreboard ticking. Starting the Day 4 from 254/3, Jadeja and Kohli looked steady on Sunday, but the southpaw's stay didn't last long as he was sent to pavilion to leave Kohli disappointed. Jadeja hit one straight towards Usman Khawaja. Till then Jadeja was playing sensibly and watchfully, but in the 107th over, Todd Murphy's delivery saw him taking the longest walk towards pavilion after scoring 28 off 84 balls.
Kohli's reaction showed how crucial was Jadeja's wicket as he was completely shattered by what happened. Kohli was completely gutted as he knew it was a big moment of the game. Even the broadcasters seemed in dismay the way Jadeja got out.
Here's the video…
“In the last couple of deliveries, Ravindra Jadeja has played shots out of his character. He has given Australia a wicket on a platter,” veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle said on air.
“What has happened to him? Did anyone say anything to him? In this particular over, he has looked to take the aerial route. The boundary he hit was uppish. Look at this, what is this shot,” former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar opined.
“Kohli is not impressed. The change room is not going to be impressed, I can tell you that. Rahul Dravid, the coach, will not be going to be impressed with this shot. And he has played such responsible innings before this. Therefore, this is a shot hard to understand,” he further added.

Kohli didn't stop their as he went on to score his 75th international ton to race India's scoreboard to 550 mark as of 71 overs. Kohli took 241 balls to reach three figures and smashed just five boundaries in his resilient knock. It was Kohli's second-slowest ton in Test cricket. Prior to his century in Ahmedabad, Kohli had gone 41 innings without scoring a century in Tests. During this time period, Kohli managed to score only six half-centuries in red-ball cricket. Also, this was Kohli's third century in 2023 after his two ODI hundreds against Sri Lanka earlier in the year.
