The Australian spinners did well in the spin conditions of the sub-continent, with debutants Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann perfectly partnering Nathan Lyon with the ball against India in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
After the second Test in Delhi, Kuhnemann tried to pick the brains of Ravindra Jadeja but failed to get any advice, instead being told to wait till the end of the series. Now, the spinner has revealed to Fox Cricket that Jadeja made good on his promise and shared some awesome tips on how to spin the ball better in the sub-continental conditions as well as back home.
"It was probably about 15 minutes, he (Jadeja) was just giving me some awesome tips; we talked about everything," Kuhnemann was quoted as saying by Fox Cricket. "He gave me some good tips for the next time we're in the subcontinent and some tips to go back home with as well," the spinner added.
The 26-year-old got his chance after leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson returned home for the birth of his first child ahead of the second Test in Delhi. He plays as a backup for Swepson back home as well, while playing for Queensland, and has 35 wickets at a rate of 34.80 in 13 matches.
Against India, Kuhnemann claimed nine wickets in three Tests, including an impressive six wickets, including a maiden five-for, to play a key role in Australia winning the third Test at Indore.
Kuhnemann also revealed that his meeting with Jadeja was facilitated by Nathan Lyon. "Nathan Lyon helped organise it as well. He (Jadeja) was really impressed with Todd, 'Gaz' and myself so that was really cool to hear that from him. He was really nice and just said any time to reach out, and even sent me a message on Instagram, so that was pretty cool," Kuhnemann added.
The last time the two teams met on Indian soil was in 2017, Steve Smith's 'brain fade' episode made headlines. This time around, it was the bonhomie between the two bitter rivals that stood out in the four-Test series.
