Australia's ongoing tour of India has turned into a complete disaster as the Baggy Greens now stare at the possibility of being whitewashed by the No.1 ranked Test Team in the world. Pat Cummins' men trail 0-2 in the four-match Border-Gavaskar Series after sustaining back-to-back humiliating defeats. Australia lost the 2nd Test by six wickets in Delhi after getting humbled by an innings and 132 runs in the 1st Test in Nagpur.
The Aussie batters have struggled to counter spin as the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin continue to make Australian willow-wielders look like greenhorns. The visiting batters have relied heavily on sweep shots against spinners, a decision that has backfired immensely.
After former captain Michael Clarke urged players to seek assistance from former stars Matthew Hayden and Mark Waugh, Hayden offered to help Pat Cummins' men as they struggle to cope against Indian spinners.
"One hundred per cent, at any time of the day or night, it is a given that myself – and I’m sure I speak for anyone else that I represent that would have that kind of influence – would 100 per cent be in," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hyden as saying.
"Any time I have been asked to do anything I’ve always said yes at any time of day," added Hayden, who affirmed that he 'won't charge' Cricket Australia (CA).
Hayden, who is part of the commentary panel, enjoyed immense success in India during his playing days. The left-handed batter scored 1,027 runs in 11 Test matches in India at a superb average of 51.35. The swashbuckling batter registered five fifties and two centuries in tough Indian conditions. Moreover, Hayden was among the handful of batters who used sweep shot to great advantage on Indian and sub-continent pitches.
The 3rd Test match between India and Australia is scheduled to begin on March 01 in Indore and the visitors would hope to at least compete with the hosts.
