After losing the opening two Test matches of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series, visitors Australia now stares at an embarrassing possibility of getting whitewashed 4-0 by India. The situation has only become harder for the Baggy Greens as multiple star players have been ruled out of the remaining two matches. Captain Pat Cummins will miss the 3rd Test in Indore while star batter David Warner will miss both upcoming Tests due to injury.
Australian batter Peter Handscomb admits that the absence of two key players will make task tougher for the Baggy Greens but he also voiced confidence in returning Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green, both of whom are available for selection after recovering from their respective injuries.
"They’re two world-class players and Pat’s our captain as well, so it’s definitely going to make it tougher… It’s going to be a big loss not having those two," Handscomb said.
"But we’ve got all the information we need… We’ve got the training and the facilities that we need to be ready to go for Indore and Ahmedabad.
"Starc is coming back from injury and Green is coming back from injury. We’ve got a couple of big ins potentially, so there’s that exciting part as well," he added.
The right-handed Handscomb appeared to be Australia's best bet with the bat on turning Indian pitches where others have found it difficult to stretch their stay at the crease. The Aussie batter has scored 109 runs in four innings so far, which is not a lot, but his application against spinners has been a bright spot for the visitors.
