On the back of Umesh Yadav’s sensational spell coupled with Ravichandran Ashwin's disciplined display, India clawed their way back into the Indore Test in the opening session on Day 1. After a solid start, Australia's lower-order collapsed like a pack of cards, helping the hosts in registering a comeback. From 186/4 to 197/10, the Baggy Greens suffered a stunning collapse and could only push their lead to 88 runs. Australia could add just 41 runs to their overnight score as they threw away the golden chance to take massive lead.
On a dust-bowl Indore pitch, right-arm pacer Umesh Yadav produced a terrific spell of fast bowling. After getting just two overs on Day 1, Umesh was given a chance to exploit reverse swing with new ball around the corner. Umesh answered Rohit's call straightaway by trapping Cameron Green right in front of the stumps. In his next over, Umesh came round the wicket and used the angle well against left-handed Mitchell Starc. The veteran pacer delivered an absolute peach and sent a stump flying towards wicket-keeper KS Bharat. It was Umesh’s 100th Test wicket on Indian soil, a feat achieved only by five Indian pacers.

In the next over, Umesh flattened Todd Murphy’s off stump to dismiss him for a six-ball duck.

List of Indian pacers with 100 Test wickets at home:
Kapil Dev: 219
Javagal Srinath: 108
Zaheer Khan: 104
Ishant Sharma: 104
Umesh Yadav: 101
After Umesh's fantastic spell, the onus switched to India batters to make amends for their horrendous batting display on Day 1. Rohit Sharma (5 not out) and Shubman Gill (4 not out), took India's total to 13/0 at Lunch on Day 2. India would hope for a big innings from either of their two openers in order to turn the tables on Australia.
