Australia's limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch has revealed that he wants Pakistan captain Babar Azam to play in the next season of Big Bash League (BBL).

“I just asked Babar (Azam) if he’s interested in coming and playing for the Melbourne Renegades and he certainly is – and, hopefully, we can announce that signing tomorrow!” Finch said jokingly.

“If Babar Azam is available to play Big Bash, any team would love to have him,” he added.

Azam scored two consecutive centuries in the last two ODIs of the three-ODI series. Azam has scored 7,814 runs in the T20 format so far at an average of 45.16 including six centuries and 66 half-centuries.

After the ODI series loss at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Finch lauded the talent pool in Pakistan.

“The talent of Pakistan cricket is extraordinary. I think world cricket is better when Pakistan are playing well and world cricket is better when they have the opportunity to play in our domestic league,” Finch told Cricket Pakistan.

“The talent of Pakistan cricket is extraordinary. I think world cricket is better when Pakistan are playing well and world cricket is better when they have the opportunity to play in our domestic league,” Finch was quoted by Cricket Pakistan,” the 35-year-old added.

On the other hand, Finch recorded two ducks in three games. Finch has captained Melbourne Renegades in 71 games. He has led Renegades to victory in 31 games. Renegades finished at the bottom of the points table in BBL 2022. The Finch-led side won three games out of 14 they played.

On April 2, Pakistan created history with a nine-wicket victory to register a historic series win against Australia. The series loss also raised questions over Finch’s captaincy. Also, he has not fired in white-ball cricket of late. Even in Australia’s T20 World Cup 2021 title win, Finch made little contribution with the bat. Finch will have a point to prove when Australia play Pakistan on April 5 in the only T20I.
