Richa Ghosh was ecstatic after India's eight-wicket victory over Australia in the Women's Test at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on December 24.
She was also delighted to have a noteworthy debut in this historic Test match for the Women in Blue. Initially, the 20-year-old became India's first-choice player due to Shubha Satheesh's injury in the Test match against England at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
Scoring 52 runs off 104 balls with seven fours in the first innings, Richa played a crucial role in India's substantial lead of 187 runs. In the second innings, she, unfortunately, got out after a hasty shot, managing only 13 runs off 32 balls.
After this unforgettable debut, Richa expressed gratitude to her parents for being present at Wankhede to witness their daughter don the Indian cap.
"Debut to remember, a half-century to cherish. Grateful for the team's incredible effort in our historic first Test win against Australia at Wankhede. The support was simply amazing. Eternally grateful to my parents and the support system. Couldn't have done it without them”, Richa said.
“I was very happy since I was getting a chance. But I did not allow it to put any pressure on me. I approached this game with the idea that it is yet another match for me and that we have played ODIs and T20Is against Australia in the past. But I wanted to give myself time (in the middle) since this is about Test cricket.”
Earlier, Harmanpreet Kaur said that India positioned Richa at No. 3 as they aimed to play aggressive cricket against a formidable Australian team.
“We just wanted to play positive cricket, and that is why we wanted to put Richa Ghosh at no.3. We did not want to go back to defensive cricket and everyone knows how Richa plays. We just wanted to stick to the basics and do the right task”, Harmanpreet was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Following their historic Test victory, India are set to face Australia in three ODIs at the Wankhede Stadium. The 50-over matches will be succeeded by three T20Is scheduled for January 5, 7, and 9.
