Veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin smashed an astonishing ton and stole the show on the opening day of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on September 19 (Thursday). He hit his 6th Test century and helped the Rohit Sharma-led Team India to recover from an early slump and quick fall of wickets. His knock put the hosts in a strong position. During this knock, Ashwin unlocked many new milestones.
Ashwin joins special club led by Rahul Dravid
Ravichandran Ashwin has become the fourth Indian batter to have scored a Test hundred after turning 38. He has joined the club with Former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid, Vinoo Mankad, and Vijay Merchant. Dravid smashed 5 tons in Tests after turning 38 and Mankad had two, these two are the only Indian batters with more than one hundred to their name after turning 38.

The Indian cricket team suffered three early blows as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli got out after scoring just 6 runs each and Shubman Gill returned to the dugout without score a single run. Then a crucial 62-run stand between Yashaswi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant revived the Indian innings. After Pant's dismissal, Jaiswal joined another good 48-run partnership with KL Rahul but the team again lost couple of quick wickets again found themselves in a spot of bother.
The dup of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja rescued the hosts with their amazing knocks. They put togetehr an unbeaten 195-run partnership to help India reach a strong position. At the end of Stumps Day 1, the Indian side had 339/6 on the scoreboard. Ashwin is batting on 102 and Jadeja is unbeaten on 86. Both of them will be resuming the play for Indian on Day 2.
