On Day 4 of the second Test at Green Park, Kanpur, India needed early wickets to put pressure on Bangladesh. The Indian bowlers succeeded as three wickets fell in the first session. However, Mominul Haque played the anchor role and scored his century. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had his plans in place to put pressure on Bangladesh batters. However, there was a moment when Rohit and pacer Mohammed Siraj lost their cool at KL Rahul for sloppy fielding that led to a boundary off Mominul’s bat.
The incident took place in the 52nd over of the innings and 17th over of the day's play. Siraj bowled a short of the length delivery. The left-handed batter pulled it behind square. Rahul was supposed to cut it off but the ball evaded him. Rohit and Siraj were not happy with Rahul's effort. The pacer even gave him a stare. Rahul tried to justify it by indicating that the ball was far from him.
Then, Mominul rubbed salt on Siraj's wounds as he hit another boundary. This time it was Shubman Gill at square leg who misfielded. With two fours, Mominul took his score to 70s. He went on to score his maiden Test century against India and achieved several feats in the first session itself. Mominul's century helped Bangladesh post 205/6 in the first session.
Rohit, Siraj’s one-handed stunner
However, skipper Rohit and Siraj pulled off spectacular one-handed catches. First, Rohit took a one-handed catch at mid-off to dismiss Litton Das off Siraj’s bowling. Then, Siraj took a one-handed catch to dismiss Shakib Al Hasan to end Shakib Al Hasan’s stay at the crease.
Rahul preferred over youngsters
Meanwhile, Rahul has been underfire. He was selected in the playing eleven over Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel on the basis of his experience and ability. He returned to red-ball cricket in Duleep Trophy 2024 and scored a half-century before being named in the 16-member Test squad.
In the first Test in Chennai he was dismissed for 16 in the first innings and remained unbeaten for 22 in the second.
