BBL: Daniel boys' 11 sixes hog limelight as Sixers steal thunder

Sydney Sixers stifled Sydney Thunder by 30 runs in a game which saw Daniel names highlighting the scorecard in the Big Bash League on Sunday (December 26).

Huge cameos from Daniel Hughes and Dan Christian helped the Sixers post a huge total of 168 at the Sydney Showground.

The game was reduced to just sixteen overs a team, but that didn’t stop the team in magenta from posting a total respectable for a 20 over game.

Daniel Hughes cracked whip with a fiery 50 off 26 which was decorated with five big sixes and a boundary.

The Sixers finished on 4/168 after 16 overs, with Hughes smashing Thunder’s bowlers left, right and centre before Christian strolled to the crease.

The veteran all-rounder took to overseas quick Saqib Mahmood and Nathan McAndrew, belting 39 off 16 deliveries.

Christian at the end pummeled the Thunder’s bowlers left, right and centre in his blitzkrieg of 41 off 17 balls.

James Vince only struck at 106.9 in his 31, while Christian struck at a whopping 241.18 strike rate for his final overs masterclass.

The Thunder had their backs to the wall chasing down this huge total and a bizarre moment only added to their total.

They didn’t get the start which was needed as the opener Matthew Gilkes fell for mere 6 on the last delivery of the very first over. The highly touted batter Alex Hales also failed to convert a good start as he was sent to the pavilion at the score of 14 which came off in 6 balls. Jason Sangha tried to steady the boat with his brave 47 off 30 balls which was studded with four boundaries and a big one. But Hayden Kerr thwarted Sangha’s intention to take the match away from Sixers. Kerr was also the pick of the bowler for Sixers as he snared 3/29. He was supported by Ben Dwarshuis’ 2/21 and Sean Abbott’s 2/29.

At the end, the third star Daniel of the match, Daniel Sams, made an effort to save Thunder from blushes with a cameo of 28 off 11 balls which was loaded with 4 big ones but sadly he could only see his side going down to Sixers after Mickey Edwards plucked his wicket and Thunder were folded to 142.
