In the second match of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023, West Indies international Rahkeem Cornwall was run out in a hilarious manner that sparked roaring laughter among onlookers. The incident occurred during the match between Saint Lucia Kings and Barbados Royals at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia on August 18 (Friday). Cornwall, who walked out to open the innings for the Royals, was run out on the first ball in a comedic fashion.

The bulky right-handed batter clipped Matthew Forde's delivery towards the short fine-leg fielder and set off for a single. Chris Sole, who was inside the 30-yard circle, failed to gather the ball cleanly but recovered swiftly and unleashed a powerful throw at the non-striker's end. Cornwall was ambling on the 22 yards, as if unaware of what was happening and Sole's direct hit caught the 30-year-old well short of the crease.

In a daunting run chase of 201 runs, the Royals couldn't recover after losing Cornwall's wicket on the opening ball of the innings. Rovman Powell's men were all out for just 147 runs in 20 overs, handing the Kings an easy 54-run victory. Barbados' top order failed miserably and it was because of Nyeem Young's 48-run knock of 39 balls that the team managed to narrow the margin of defeat.

Forde was the pick of all bowlers for Barbados as he finished with figures of 3/12 in three overs, including a maiden over. All the other bowlers used chipped in with a wicket each.

Earlier, the Kings posted a score of 201/6 in 20 overs on the back of handy cameos from skipper Faf du Plessis and Sean Williams. The former South African skipper scored 46 runs off 32 balls while the Zimbabwean veteran Williams chipped in with a knock of 47 runs off 30 balls.

For the Royals, Jason Holder was the pick of all bowlers as the veteran right-arm medium pacer finished with four wickets in as many overs and conceded 38 runs. Qais Ahmed registered figures of 2/35 in four overs while all the other bowlers used went wicketless on the evening.
