After the Indian team made history at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday (March 9) by defeating New Zealand by four wickets and winning the 2025 Champions Trophy, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar went viral on the internet. India had already won the 2024 T20 World Cup, and this was their second consecutive ICC title win. Gavaskar, who worked for the host broadcaster, observed from behind as the Indian team raised the trophy.
In case you were unaware, the 75-year-old is a member of the official English commentary crew for the huge event. During a break from his media responsibilities, the former captain of India displayed his dancing skills.
Gavaskar's dance moves set internet on fire
75-year-old Gavaskar's passionate dance swiftly went viral on social media and captured the hearts of cricket fans. It is important to remember that Gavaskar was a member of the squad that, led by Kapil Dev, won India's first-ever ICC championship (1983 World Cup). Additionally, he captained the squad that won the Australian cricket world championship in 1985.
Speaking of the game, New Zealand decided to bat first after winning the toss. After half-centuries from Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell, the Black Caps scored 251/7. Earlier, Rachin Ravindra scored 37 runs in 29 balls to give the 2000 champions a head start in the powerplay. Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy both claimed two wickets.
The Indian team got off to a fast start because to Rohit Sharma's century-long partnership with Shubman Gill. After scoring 76 runs in 83 balls during the final, Rohit was named Player of the Match (POTM). KL Rahul (34), Hardik (18), Axar Patel (29), and Shreyas Iyer (48) made sure the Men in Blue crossed the finish line with six balls remaining.
Prior to this, Rohit was the first captain of an international team to guide his team to the final of all four major ICC events: the Champions Trophy 2025, the T20 World Cup 2024, the ODI World Cup 2023, and the World Test Championship 2023. Australia dealt India devastating losses in both the WTC final and the ODI World Cup final. For the first time in their history, the Rohit Sharma-led team has pulled off an incredible comeback to win back-to-back ICC Trophies.
