On Day 2 of the ongoing Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022, India opened their medal account with medals in weightlifting. Sanket Sargar won the first silver medal in 55kg category whereas Mirabai Chanu dominated the proceedings with her second consecutive gold at CWG. Gururaja Poojary won a bronze medal as well in the men's 61kg category.
While there were few medals won, Indian mixed badminton team thrashed Sri Lanka by 5-0. Boxer Mohammed Hussamuddin won his bout against South Africa's Zomele Dyeyi by 5-0 in men's 57kg category whereas both men's and women's hockey team advanced into the next round.
The Day 3 has a few medal events as well in weightlifting featuring Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli in men’s category and, Popy Hazarika in women’s category. In the do or die encounter, Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan. Also, India’s star boxers Nikhat Zareen and Shiva Thapa will be in action.
