19-year-old Dewald Brevis has turned the eyes of cricketing world from ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia to CSA T20 Challenge. Brevis smashed record 57-ball 162 for Titans against Knights at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. Brevis' 162-run knock adds him to the list of T20 legends. This is joint third-highest individual score by a batter in the history of T20 cricket.

Brevis' 162 helped Titans post a gigantic total of 271/3, the highest in the history of the league. His record-breaking knock was laced with 13 fours and as many sixes.

The opener was attacking right from the start. He reached his half-century with a six off just 18 deliveries in the seventh over. In the 12th over, he reached his maiden T20 century with a single. He did so in just 35 deliveries. On the other end, Jiveshan Pillay scored a 45-ball 52. The opening partnership came to an end in the 15th over of the innings.

Brevis continued the onslaught till the final over. He got dismissed by Gerald Coetzee. The young South African batter had a chance to break Chris Gayle's all-time record of 175 as there were three more balls remaining in the innings.

130 runs out of Brevis' innings came in form of fours and sixes. He batted with a stupendous strike rate of 284.21. Interestingly, the Knights’ bowlers had several chances to run out Brevis for backing up too far before the ball was delivered but they did not opt for the form of dismissal.

The previous best for South African batter in T20 format is 140. Pieter Malan scored unbeaten 140 for Western province against Easterns in Cape Town in 2014.

Brevis was picked by Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore in the IPL mega auction. In his debut IPL season, he scored 161 runs from seven appearances. He batted with an average of 23 and a strike rate of 142.48. His highest score in the season was 49.
