Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Ayush Badoni who is currently leading South Delhi Superstarz in the ongoing Delhi Premier League smashed 19 sixes in a match to break the record of West Indies legendary batter Chris Gayle. Earlier, Gayle held the record for most sixes in a T20I match smashing 18 maximums in an inning during Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017 for Rangpur Riders against Dhaka Dynamites.
Interestingly in the exclusive conversation with Sports Tak, Badoni didn't know about this milestone. He said that he was trying to break Gayle's record of most runs in a T20I match. Gayle holds the record for most runs in a T20I inning scoring 175 during the Indian Premier League (IPL). Badoni was just 10 runs less than the legendary batter, he scored 165 runs which helped South Delhi Superstarz to score 308 runs.
“I didn't know about Chris Gayle's record because I knew about his 175-run record” said Badoni
Ayush Badoni for KL Rahul and IPL retention
While asked about his retention, Badoni said that he is currently not thinking about IPL. He also said that LSG skipper KL Rahul is like an elder brother to him who explains a lot of things to him on and off the field.
“But I am not thinking about retention and I have no idea about the number of people in it. He is a good captain, we talk a lot. He is like an elder brother to me. He explains a lot of things to me on the field and off the field also. I like to play in his captaincy” added Badoni.

Ayush Badoni for Gautam Gambhir
Ayush was mentored by current India head coach Gautam Gambhir when he was with LSG during IPL 2022 and 2023. Badoni said that he learned a lot of things from him and the major thing in to be competitive and fearless.
“He used to explain a lot to me. I learnt a lot from him but his main thing is to be competitive and fearless. So I learnt from him and I try to do that in the match as well” Badoni also said.
Badoni-led South Delhi Superstarz smashed 30 sixes in the inning which is the highest in a T20 innings. The previous best was 26 in Nepal's Asia Cup 2023 clash against Mongolia.
