The cricketing world was stunned on March 14 (Tuesday) after Bangladesh secured a historic series whitewash of reigning T20 World champions England. The Bangla Tigers won the third T20I by 16 runs at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, and in the process, became the only second Team in history to whitewash England 3-0 in a T20I series. After Bangladesh's unprecedented display, social media was in overdrive with former cricketers, pundits and fans applauding Shakib-Al-Hasan's men for their tremendous effort against white-ball giants.
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer used the opportunity to take a dig at former England captain Michael Vaughan. Jaffer and Vaughan have been involved in several Twitter banter over the years and the former added another chapter to their social media rivalry.
"Hello @MichaelVaughan, long time no see #BANvENG," Jaffer said in a tweet in which he shared a picture of himself in the Bangladesh shirt.
Too much experimenting hurt England. It started with the dead rubber third ODI where Bangladesh won by 50 runs. In the first T20I, Bangladesh won by six wickets with two overs to spare. In the second T20I, England suffered a batting collapse and the hosts won the game by four wickets with seven balls to spare. Buttler revealed that he was giving chance to batters to bat higher up the order which they would not get normally. It backfired as England could not win a single game in the T20I series.
Bangladesh captain Shakib was chuffed by his team's performance in the T20I series and underlined that the triumph was powered by the contribution of every individual on the side.
“We were really good in this series and fielded exceptionally well and that was a major change. There's a World Cup next year and we can build on this victory. We batted really well on a tricky wicket and we didn't know what was a good total. Litton and Rony started well and Shanto finished it off. The two set batters got out in two balls and that changed the game completely, Mustafizur was exceptional with the ball. That will be another challenge for us. Ireland are a very good side in the T20 format,” Shakib said after his side’s resounding win over England.
