Jasprit Bumrah ripped through the England's batting line-up and bulldozed them to mere 253 on Day 2 of the second Test in Visakhapatnam. Riding on a back-breaking six-wicket haul Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian pacer to take 150 Test wickets. England batters looked helpless in front of Bumrah's spellbinding bowling. India have taken a 171-run lead after the close of Day 2.
Bumrah bagged his 10th fifer in Test cricket with the wicket of Tom Hartley. He completed quintet of dismissals that included Joe Root (5), Ollie Pope (23), Jonny Bairstow (25), Ben Stokes (47), and Hartley (21) and then James Anderson, effectively stalling England's momentum in the second innings.
“You always enjoy when you get rewards. In India reverse swing plays a big role. Born in this country, you know how to use it to your advantage. In India, you have to learn how to bowl reverse. I've grown up watching reverse swing set ups, legendary bowlers bowling magical deliveries. To be able to do it now, very happy with that. When you bowl reverse, people try to bowl magical deliveries every other ball. You have to be patient with that. Have to set the batters up. Have to use deliveries wisely," Bumrah said after the match
"Can't just bowl inswing outswing, inswing outswing. After that Pope delivery, I had in mind they'll be looking out for the inswinger. Was keeping an eye on what the batters were looking to do. Very happy. Try and avoid looking at numbers. When you do that, you build pressure and don't enjoy yourself,” he added.
Within the context of Asian fast bowlers, Bumrah's record is surpassed only by the legendary Waqar Younis, who reached the same tally of wickets in just 27 Tests. Alongside them, Pakistani cricket icons Imran Khan and Shoaib Akhtar, who both achieved this feat in 37 matches, highlight the deep-seated tradition of fast bowling prowess in Asia.
