Chetan Sharma opened up about Virat Kohli vs Sourav Ganguly's ego tussle.

Chetan Sharma said that Virat Kohli is like his son.

Former Team India's chief selector Chetan Sharma walked down the memory lane and recalled the controversial remarks he made about Virat Kohli, which came to light during a sting operation last year. In that sting operation, Chetan Sharma was recorded sharing insider details, including a supposed 'ego clash' between Kohli and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, among other sensitive information, leading to his eventual resignation from the top post.

A year on, Sharma has reversed took a U-turn on his comments made about Kohli, now referring to the ex-India captain affectionately as his own son and clarifying that he never intended any harm or bore any malice towards him. Chetan Sharma is eagerly looking forward to Kohli's return to the field, anticipating a series of remarkable performances and centuries from him.

"Virat Kohli is like my son. He is so much younger. Why would I say bad things about him? I always pray for his well-being. It gives me immense happiness to see that he's become a legend. I hope he comes back and scores centuries to reach the 100-ton mark in international cricket. Virat is an icon of Indian cricket. I am waiting for his return," he told News24.

Chetan Sharma Praises Rohit's Selflessness

Former India's star pacer didn't reserve his compliments solely for Kohli; he also lauded Rohit Sharma for his altruistic approach to the game. Chetan Sharma expressed admiration for Rohit's willingness to put the team's interests above his own, especially highlighted by his performance in the 2023 World Cup. As captain, Rohit led from the front, consistently providing explosive starts for India. He concluded the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer, amassing 597 runs at an average of 54.27, which included three half-centuries and a hundred, trailing only behind Kohli's monumental 765 runs.

"You will find very few players who will sacrifice themselves for the team, because they have a long-term plan. We just have to go and play at the top and the rest will handle themselves. I appreciate it. In the World Cup, he did his job. Gave India explosive starts at the top, scoring 40, 50. Took India to 80/0. What more do you need? He did his job and then it was up to the rest. The way India played at the World Cup. We didn't only win 10 matches, we roughed them up. I didn't feel anyone could play cricket in the world like India did," Chetan Sharma concluded.
