India and England faced off at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, on February 9 (Sunday). The Men in Blue are leading the series 1-0 and made a few changes for the match, but the Three Lions won the toss and chose to bat first. England got off to a fast start for the second time in a row when openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt stitched a fifty-plus stand, and the bowlers were not playing well as Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya went for runs in the powerplay.
Rohit's reaction to Shami getting hit for a boundary
Shami was one of the most expensive bowlers as he had given up 30 runs in his four overs at the time of writing. In the video which is going viral on social media, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was seen getting frustrated and upset with the right-arm seamer for his errant line and length. After Duckett cut one for a four on the final ball of the seventh over which was also the over's second boundary, Rohit appeared angry. This was also the 6th boundary Shami had gotten hit for in his first four overs.
Mohammed Shami, who is making his return to International crickety after staying was out of action for more than a year due to a heel and knee injury. He made his return to the Indian team with the T20Is against England. However, the veteran pacer is still looking to get back in his top form. He took 3 wickets across two games in the T20I series. Further, in the ongoing series, Shami could only take a single wicket in that match. Talking about the ongoing match, England dominated the powerplay by scoring 76/0 after 10 overs.
However, India managed to make a comeback by taking a couple of wickets but it appears that England will be posting a big total on the board as at the time of writing, the visitors have posted 186/3 in 33 overs. With wickets in their hand, they can eventually shift gears and aim for something above 300.
As for Mohammed Shami, India would be hoping that he gains his lost mojo really soon as there is still no confirmation about Jasprit Bumrah being completely fit ahead. This makes the experienced Shami one of the most crucial assets for India ahead of the much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025.
