Shubman Gill's show-stealing performance in the Asia Cup 2023 further cemented his reputation.

Cricket legend Adam Gilchrist believes that Shubman Gill is poised to shine brightly in the imminent World Cup. 2023 has been a golden year for Gill, marking his stature as a consistent ODI performer. Gill's achievement of surpassing the 1000-run milestone in ODIs this year, making him the 13th Indian to do so, stands testimony to his impeccable form. Sachin Tendulkar, with 1894 runs in 1998, sits atop this esteemed list.

Shubman Gill's show-stealing performance in the Asia Cup 2023 further cemented his reputation. He clinched his fifth ODI century during the tournament, playing a pivotal role in India's triumphant campaign. With a whopping 302 runs in the Asia Cup, Gill dominated the batting charts, emphasizing his prowess at the crease.

His consistency is evident from the moment he took on the opener's role in December 2020. In 2023 alone, Gill has racked up 1,025 runs from 17 innings, boasting a stellar average of 68.33 and a strike rate of 103.32. This fantastic run positions him as an invaluable asset for India in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.

In an interaction with Sportstar, Gilchrist expressed his awe at Gill's achievements in international cricket, predicting that he could be among the top performers in the World Cup. Gilchrist commended the Indian team's blend of seasoned players and emerging talent. He opined that if India can adeptly manage the soaring expectations, they have the potential to emerge as fierce competitors in the grand tournament.

"Shubman Gill. Everything that he has done in the international level, in every format, continues to amaze. He could possibly be one of the standout performers in the tournament. They have got a nice balance of experience, particularly of Rohit and Virat. KL Rahul is an experienced player already, and there's younger blood in and around that, is a nice balance," Gilchrist told Sportstar.

"The power games of Pandya in the middle is an example. They have got a talented squad and the big thing in India is to handle the expectations. If they can find a way - like they did in 2011 - to not let that expectation swamp them and overshadow everything, they will be very competitive. But obviously, that will be a challenge internally."
