Highlights:

In the previous match against Afghanistan, Glenn Maxwell delivered one of the most extraordinary ODI innings, enduring leg cramps to record the first-ever double-century in a chasing scenario.

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell may sit out the final group stage clash in the ODI World Cup 2023, as indicated by spin-bowling coach Daniel Vettori. Addressing reporters in Pune before the match against Bangladesh on November 11, Vettori explained that Maxwell's availability hinges on how he feels on the game day.

In the previous encounter against Afghanistan, Maxwell delivered one of the most extraordinary ODI innings, enduring leg cramps to record the first-ever double-century in a chasing scenario. Vettori acknowledged Maxwell's recovery efforts, stating, "He's definitely been in full recovery mode the last few days. I think we all saw the effects of the innings and in particular the heat."

The spin-bowling coach emphasised the importance of monitoring Maxwell's well-being, given the intensity of his recent performance. While there won't be a formal fitness test, Vettori expressed confidence in Maxwell's ability to rebound quickly, noting his past resilience after breaks from international cricket.

Australia currently holds the third position in the group stage, with a guaranteed spot in the semi-final against South Africa at Eden Gardens. Vettori playfully commented on the preference for the home dressing room, stating, "I think the home dressing room at Eden Gardens is better than the away one, so we want a second place so we can get in that dressing room."

Despite the match against Bangladesh holding no bearing on Australia's World Cup standings, Vettori highlighted the team's aim to secure the second spot in the league table. He underlined the minimal benefits but stressed the importance of finishing strong for momentum heading into the semi-final.

Reflecting on Australia's performance, Vettori praised the team's resilience after a challenging start, having won six consecutive games. He identified the upcoming match as an opportunity for players to make impactful contributions and emphasized the significance of maintaining high standards.

Australia is set to face Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, with the match scheduled to commence at 10:30 am.
